"Animus Anima"
Exhibition project by Paula Kajzar
On the stage of our lives, an invisible drama unfolds, binding us together with endless plots woven from our moods and feelings. In our real-life relationships, everyone hides within their psyche an Animus or Anima, two elements of the unconscious in constant motion. They continuously seek, desire, find each other, break up, and disband, creating an endless cycle of Yin and Yang. This frenetic quest for peace and balance between solitude and love, even within ourselves, inspires this project. Using the technique of creative movement, Paula Kajzar invites the viewer on this cathartic journey, allowing freedom for emotional interpretation. The theatrical environment where these photographs were candidly captured provides the ideal setting to fulfill this metaphor. The title and inspiration for this project come from G.J. Jung’s archetype theory, particularly his book “The Invisible Partners,” where he explores the animus as the unconscious masculine element in women and the anima as the unconscious feminine side in men. Each transcends the personal psyche, and only the perfect integration of both forces, embracing and elevating these energies to the highest levels, can bring an individual to harmony. For over 15 years, Paula Kajzar worked as a stage photographer, falling in love with the movement that traces invisible lines. She created her abstract compositions with the allegorical meanings of these images in mind, choosing primarily primary colors for their therapeutic properties.
